ESSEC EMBA Admissions: Choosing the Right Executive MBA Format
ESSEC EMBA admissions now cover a family of Executive MBAs rather than a single programme: the ESSEC & Mannheim Executive MBA plus Weekend, Hybrid and Online formats. Most require a four-year degree, at least seven years of experience including three in management, advanced English and a jury interview. Places go to experienced leaders with a clear development goal.

What is the ESSEC Executive MBA today?
There is no single "ESSEC EMBA". Each of the four main ESSEC Executive MBA formats lasts 18 months, is designed for people who keep working, and awards an MBA from ESSEC plus a French Master's grade. The main options for international applicants are:
| Programme | Format | Next start | Experience |
|---|---|---|---|
| ESSEC & Mannheim (European Track) | 4 to 5 days every 6 weeks | 27 October 2026 | 8 years, 5 managing |
| Weekend Executive MBA | 3.5 days a month, Paris | 27 May 2027 | 7 years, 3 managing |
| Hybrid Executive MBA | 70% online | 30 March 2027 | 7 years, 3 managing |
| Online Executive MBA | 100% online | 7 December 2026 | 7 years, 3 managing |
The ESSEC & Mannheim Executive MBA is the joint programme with Mannheim Business School: graduates receive an MBA from both schools. Its European Track is based at Paris-La Défense with courses in France and Germany and residencies at Georgetown University in Washington DC and in Singapore. A Singapore Track runs one week a month in Singapore.
The ESSEC Hybrid Executive MBA combines online learning with residencies in Paris, Cape Town and Hong Kong. The Weekend format, based at Paris-La Défense, adds residencies in Los Angeles, Milan and Singapore. ESSEC also runs a Chinese Executive MBA across Shanghai, Singapore, Paris and Rabat.
ESSEC EMBA requirements
- Degree: a four-year bachelor's or a master's. With a three-year degree, you go through a validation of prior learning process.
- Experience: seven years including three in management for the Weekend, Hybrid and Online formats; eight years including five in management, plus international work experience, for the ESSEC & Mannheim European Track.
- English: advanced level, shown by a TOEIC score of at least 830 for the Weekend, Hybrid and Online formats.
- Documents: a CV, authenticated transcripts and diplomas, and two reference letters on ESSEC's template.
ESSEC's EMBA pages do not list the GMAT or GRE. Instead, the jury looks for international exposure, strong performance and leadership potential.
How does the application process work?
ESSEC EMBA admissions follow the same steps for each main format: you apply online and pay a €150 fee. Shortlisted candidates meet a jury at Paris-La Défense or by video conference to present themselves and their motivation. Decisions arrive within one week of the interview, and admitted candidates have three weeks to confirm. Early Bird deadlines apply to some formats, so ask the programme team for dates.
ESSEC EMBA tuition, ranking and outcomes
ESSEC EMBA tuition varies by format. The Online Executive MBA costs €40,000 for non-EU participants and €48,000 for EU residents (including 20% VAT) for the December 2026 intake. For the other formats, ask the admissions team for current fees, which change every year.
On the ESSEC EMBA ranking, the Financial Times placed the ESSEC & Mannheim EMBA 21st and the Weekend EMBA 22nd worldwide in 2026, with the ESSEC & Mannheim EMBA 5th for international course experience. ESSEC reports that 92% of its EMBA graduates expanded their responsibilities and 75% hold jobs with global exposure.
How to stand out in ESSEC EMBA admissions
- Match the format to your life. Frequent travel favours the Hybrid or Online format; a Paris base suits the Weekend format.
- Quantify your leadership. Show team size, budget and results, not just titles.
- Choose referees who know your leadership. A line manager or board member who can describe your decisions carries more weight than a senior name who barely knows you.
- Prepare your sponsor conversation early. Your employer will feel the time away.

Frequently asked questions
Do I need the GMAT for the ESSEC EMBA?
ESSEC's Executive MBA pages do not list the GMAT, GRE or Executive Assessment among the requirements. The jury relies on your experience, references and interview. You still need to prove advanced English, for example with a TOEIC score of 830 for the Weekend, Hybrid and Online formats.
Should I choose the ESSEC EMBA or the Global MBA?
The Global MBA is a 12-month, full-time programme for professionals with three or more years of experience, often changing career. The Executive MBA formats last 18 months, are designed for working managers with seven or more years of experience, and let you keep your job.
