INSEAD Business School: How It Has Changed and Where It Is Headed
INSEAD business school is one of the most international places to study management, with campuses in Fontainebleau, Singapore and Abu Dhabi and a hub in San Francisco. Since 2023 it has gained a new dean, a funded campus modernisation, more AI in the curriculum and a new Master in Finance. Here is what has changed and what it means for you.

INSEAD business school today in numbers
INSEAD was founded in 1957 in Fontainebleau, near Paris. In October 2025 the school reported 162 faculty from 40 countries, more than 1,700 degree participants a year, over 21,000 executive education participants and more than 73,000 alumni in 183 countries.
The INSEAD campuses each play a distinct role:
- Europe Campus, Fontainebleau: the original campus, an MBA starting campus and part of every MiM and MiF.
- Asia Campus, Singapore: the second MBA starting campus, also part of every MiM and MiF.
- Middle East Campus, Abu Dhabi: home to a Global Executive MBA section and an MBA exchange option.
- San Francisco Hub for Business Innovation: opened in 2020 for executive education and shorter programme visits.
The headline INSEAD ranking is strong: the MBA placed second in the Financial Times Global MBA ranking 2026, up two places on 2025. The Master in Management has been in the FT's global top five for three years running and placed fourth in 2026, according to Clear Admit.
What has changed since 2023
- New leadership: Francisco Veloso, previously dean of Imperial College Business School, became INSEAD dean on 1 September 2023, succeeding Ilian Mihov after ten years.
- Campus investment: in January 2024 the European Investment Bank announced a €60 million loan to modernise and expand the Fontainebleau campus in six phases between 2024 and 2033.
- Curriculum: sustainability was woven across the MBA curriculum in early 2024, according to Poets&Quants, and the MBA now offers electives in generative AI, machine learning and AI strategy.
- New programme: INSEAD announced a pre-experience Master in Finance in September 2025, with a first intake in August 2027.
- Research profile: Professor Philippe Aghion shared the 2025 Nobel Prize in Economic Sciences for work on innovation-driven growth.
Where INSEAD is headed
The clearest direction is the United States. In February 2025 Dean Veloso told Poets&Quants that INSEAD would expand its US presence in 2026, including letting MBA students spend a full two-month period at the San Francisco Hub. According to the same report, US-based companies were the fastest-growing employer market for INSEAD graduates in 2024.
The Global Executive MBA now also offers a blended Flex section, and the Fontainebleau works run until 2033, so you may study through some of the change.

What it means for applicants
Three points matter most if INSEAD business school is on your list. First, international motivation is an explicit admissions criterion, and a typical MBA class holds about 90 nationalities. Show it with evidence: languages, cross-border projects, time abroad.
Second, Gulf applicants have real options at INSEAD Abu Dhabi. Experienced managers can take the Global Executive MBA there without relocating, and 18% of the MBA class of 2025 took jobs in Africa and the Middle East.
Third, plan your tests early. The MBA, MiM and MiF all require the GMAT or GRE with no waivers, while the Global Executive MBA also accepts INSEAD's own Executive Test.
