INSEAD EMBA Admissions: Global Executive MBA Guide for 2027

INSEAD EMBA admissions are built for senior professionals: the average participant is 38 with 14 years of experience, and you are expected to have at least three years managing teams or projects. You need a degree (exceptions are possible), a test score, essays, video answers and two alumni interviews. Admission is selective, and the committee weighs proven leadership, academic capacity, international outlook and ability to contribute.

What is the INSEAD Global Executive MBA and who is it for?

The INSEAD Global Executive MBA (GEMBA) is a modular programme that lets you keep working. For the 2027 intake (class of 2029) you choose one of four sections:

  • Middle East, Abu Dhabi: starts 5 October 2027, 15 months.
  • Asia, Singapore: starts 12 October 2027, 15 months.
  • Europe, Fontainebleau: starts 20 October 2027, 15 months.
  • Flex, blended: starts 17 May 2027, 20 months, mixing live virtual classes with in-person modules.

The three campus sections include about 12 weeks of on-campus classes. A typical class has 280 participants from 80 nationalities, 35% women, and 55% working outside their home country. Graduates receive an Executive Master in Business Administration.

For Gulf-based managers, Abu Dhabi offers a top European school's EMBA without leaving the region; our INSEAD business school overview covers the wider school.

INSEAD also runs the Tsinghua-INSEAD EMBA, a 22-month dual degree with Tsinghua University in Beijing.

If you have under ten years of experience, compare our guide to INSEAD MBA admissions.

INSEAD GEMBA requirements

  • A recognised undergraduate degree or equivalent, with exceptions possible.
  • At least three years in a management role, leading teams or projects.
  • A test: the INSEAD Executive Test, or an Executive Assessment, GMAT or GRE score valid for five years. Waivers are not granted.
  • English: if you have not worked or studied in English for an extended period, you may be asked for TOEFL, IELTS or PTE. You also need basic knowledge of a second language.
  • Two professional recommendations, one usually from your current manager.
  • A CV of up to two pages and your transcripts.

The INSEAD Executive Test is taken online after pre-selection: four 30-minute sections covering data analysis, data interpretation, communication analysis and critical thinking.

INSEAD EMBA admissions process and deadlines

You submit job description and motivation essays, which INSEAD wants as personal stories rather than business memos, plus two Kira video questions (five minutes to prepare, two to record). After pre-selection you take the test if needed, then interview with two INSEAD alumni. The process takes up to ten weeks and the fee is €250.

INSEAD EMBA fees and outcomes

INSEAD EMBA fees are €142,150 for every section, for self-funded and company-sponsored participants alike, with a non-refundable €29,000 due within a month of admission. INSEAD's living-cost estimates include €22,000 for Europe, US$23,000 for the Middle East and SG$34,000 for Asia. Fees can change by intake.

INSEAD's GEMBA page reports that 49% of participants changed sector, function or geography, and 16% created or returned to their own company.

How to stand out

Strong INSEAD EMBA admissions files make your seniority and commitment easy to see.

  • Quantify your leadership: team size, budget, markets.
  • Agree time away with your employer early, since campus sections need roughly 60 to 65 working days out of office.
  • If your EA or GMAT result is strong, submit it and go straight to interview.
  • Choose recommenders who have seen you lead recently, ideally your current manager.

Frequently asked questions

Do you need the GMAT for the INSEAD EMBA?

Not necessarily. You can submit an Executive Assessment, GMAT or GRE score, or take the INSEAD Executive Test online after pre-selection. The Executive Test costs €150 and can only be taken once, so prepare properly. Test waivers are not granted.

Is the Tsinghua-INSEAD EMBA still offered?

Yes. The Tsinghua-INSEAD EMBA is a 22-month dual-degree programme run with Tsinghua University's School of Economics and Management. Classes are small, about 40 participants with an average age of 39, and modules run in Beijing and on INSEAD's campuses. The next intake starts in Beijing in September 2027.
