Imperial MSc Finance Admissions: Requirements and Deadlines 2027
Imperial MSc Finance admissions favour recent graduates with a first-class degree, or a strong upper second, in a highly quantitative subject, solid maths and finance internships. You take an online maths test, apply in one of four rounds with three essays and two references, and record a video interview if shortlisted. With 101 students in the current class, places are limited.

What is the Imperial MSc Finance and who is it for?
Often searched as the Imperial MiF, the MSc Finance is Imperial's pre-experience master's in finance. It is taught full-time at South Kensington and White City and targets careers in sales and trading, investment banking, asset management, hedge funds and consulting.
Foundations in programming, valuation and accounting lead into core modules such as Derivatives, Financial Econometrics and Investments and Portfolio Management. You then choose from 20+ electives and finish with an applied or research project. As a CFA University Affiliation programme, it covers at least 70% of the CFA Program body of knowledge, and one international elective, Global Markets and Policy for Practitioners, has run in Dubai.

What are the Imperial MSc Finance requirements?
- Degree: preferably first-class honours in a highly quantitative discipline such as maths, engineering, economics, finance or science. Upper second-class applicants are also considered.
- Maths: proficiency in probability, calculus, matrix algebra and real analysis, shown in a quantitative experience statement and an online maths test that checks whether you are suited to apply.
- Imperial MSc Finance GMAT: not required, but highly recommended if your degree is less quantitative. The minimum is 600 on the GMAT 10th Edition (current average 645) or the 55th percentile on GMAT Focus. A GRE Quant score of 159 also adds weight.
- Experience: internships are strongly recommended, and Imperial expects finance applicants to show professional experience built during their degree.
- English: IELTS Academic 7.0 with 6.5 in each element, or an accepted equivalent.

Frequently asked questions
Do I need the GMAT for the Imperial MSc Finance?
No. In Imperial MSc Finance admissions, your maths is judged through the online test, your transcript and your quantitative statement. Imperial does highly recommend a GMAT or GRE if your degree is less quantitative. If you take the GMAT, aim above the current average of 645.
Is the Imperial MSc Finance the same as a Master in Finance (MiF)?
Yes, in practice. The MSc Finance is Imperial's pre-experience master's in finance and appears in the Financial Times Masters in Finance ranking, at 17th in the world in 2026. It is built for recent graduates, not experienced professionals, so internships matter more than full-time work history.
