Ace the GMAT, GRE, or Tage-Mage with Confidence
Just like in English-speaking countries, applying to Master’s programs in many regions—especially in business, management, or finance—often requires completing standardized assessments that test your logical, verbal, and mathematical reasoning skills. Among the most widely recognized international tests are the GMAT and the GRE, which are accepted by top universities and business schools around the world. In France, the Tage-Mage is a well-known equivalent used specifically by French institutions.
Some Master’s programs list these tests as mandatory and even publish minimum required scores in their brochures. For example, gaining admission to a competitive Master’s in Finance program is difficult without a GMAT score of at least 680 out of 800. Likewise, elite French business schools such as ESSEC or ESCP typically expect high Tage-Mage scores, often above 400 out of 600.
Wherever you’re applying, a high test score can significantly strengthen your application—especially for programs with limited seats or large applicant pools. Our preparation courses are designed to help you achieve your best possible score and stand out from the crowd.
Your Application Is More Than Just Numbers—Make It Count
To truly shine in your college applications, good grades and test scores are important, but they aren’t the only things that matter! Most universities also want to see a cover letter or personal statement as part of the process. Some even ask for essays on various topics, like current events or thought-provoking questions.
Why Good Grades Aren’t Enough: The Power of Application Essays
Universities often have a mix of unique application essays. For example, at University College London (UCL), some programs ask applicants to submit a written piece responding to a specific question or scenario related to their field of study. This essay lets you demonstrate your critical thinking and creativity. It’s easy to underestimate it, but admissions teams pay close attention to how you express your ideas!
Some schools, like IE and ESADE, have decided to skip the traditional cover letter altogether and only require applicants to submit essays. Master’s programs often follow suit! For instance, schools like HEC and ESSEC ask similar questions like, “How do you envision your professional career?” or “What are your core values?”. The University of Oxford’s Saïd Business School asks a thought-provoking question such as: “What’s your purpose? What motivates you to pursue an MBA and how will it help you make a meaningful impact in the world?”
And let's not forget about London Business School, which features a hefty nine essays focused on your personality and professional aspirations.
Although it may feel like a lot of work, these essays can really help you stand out! A great essay can convince the admissions team that you understand what they’re looking for and that your values align with theirs.
Nail Your Cover Letter: 5 Pro Tips to Make It Shine

Your cover letter is a key part of your application, so let’s make it great! Crafting it can be simple yet tricky for different reasons. Here are five tips to help you nail it:
1. Structure Is Everything
A messy letter makes things tough for the reader. It’s very important to have a clear structure, so your thoughts flow logically. A classic layout could look like this:
- Start with an introduction
- Share your academic background (and any extracurriculars) along with your interests, especially regarding the Master’s program
- Connect your work experiences and how they’ve shaped your academic and career goals
- Outline your future career aspirations
- Explain why this specific Master’s program—its courses, clubs, reputation, and career prospects—aligns perfectly with your ambitions.
2. Tell Your Story
Maybe you spent some time in Peru on a humanitarian mission, play the cello beautifully, are an avid athlete, or started a business as a kid. Even if some of these things seem small, they can really make your application stand out! Unique experiences grab attention and invite the reader to learn more about you, so find a way to weave them into your story naturally.
3. Proofread Like a Pro
The competition is tough for those top Master’s programs, so be sure to proofread your letter! A few typos can really stand out and might leave a less-than-great impression. Double-check your spelling and grammar to show you’re serious about this opportunity.
4. Do Your Homework
It might seem obvious, but many students forget to highlight why they’re drawn to a particular program. They often use the same template for different applications, which is totally fine, but don't forget to focus on why this Master’s is the one for you! This part is extremely important because it shows the committee that you’ve taken the time to research the program and that there’s a clear connection between your background and this path you want to take.
5. Match the Program’s Personality
Remember that each admissions committee has its unique style and what they’re looking for. Think about who will be reading your letter and what they want to see. For instance, if you're applying for a Master in Management (MiM), they’re likely looking for students ready to commit to a three-year program where they can gain management skills and experience. Meanwhile, if it’s for a Master of Science in Finance (MSc), they might want those who are set to wrap up their studies in one year before jumping into the working world. Keeping these differences in mind will help you tailor your letter beautifully!
Crafting a Killer CV: Stand Out with Relevance and Impact
Creating a CV is a big task, and it’s one that many students don’t take as seriously as they should. A lot of students are unfamiliar with how to make a great CV, which often leads to poorly formed documents. The goal is to showcase your background and experiences in a way that appeals to the admissions team, keeping a nice balance between your academic record, work experience, and other relevant information.
For example, listing a lifeguard certificate when applying for an economics degree isn’t really relevant. Similarly, saying you’re proficient in basic HTML coding (which often turns out to be overstated) doesn’t impress anymore. Instead, aim to present your experiences in a positive light, emphasizing the subjects you excel in and thoroughly detailing your volunteer and community service work.
With a little thought and effort, you can craft an application that really stands out!
